Even though this book had dark elements and psychopaths as characters, the plot felt so bland. Where was the climax?
I couldn’t wrap my head around how Zuko didn’t recognize Alaska as Sage—the person he’d been calling over and over just to hear her voice—especially when she immediately recognized his. It was such a frustrating plot hole.
And Alaska? She irritated me to no end. She was written like the ultimate “quirky girl” stereotype—no food in the house, using plastic plates, and storing shoes in the oven. Seriously, was she twelve?
I won’t be picking up the next book in the series.
I received an ARC and am leaving a review voluntarily.
This is a dark romance book that I finished in one day. If that doesn't tell you everything you need to know, I'm not sure what else to tell you. I was definitely drawn to Zuko and Alaska. I'm excited to read the next stories in the Hunter series also. I took off a star simply because of the typos I came across during my read. That always throws off my reading flow and makes me sad. Overall, a quick, enjoyable read that is a HEA with a badass FMC! This was my first T.L. Smith read and I will definitely read more of her books.

The amount of “she giggled” there was in this was annoying, and hearing a supposedly grown ass man say “that was hot” after sex is icky. And so many of these scenes lead to nothing.

This was a short but very enjoyable read.
It begins with a little phone sex between Sage and Zuko. She toed the razors edge and he was becoming very entranced with her. Eager to know who she truly was. Sage, her fake sex phone name, denied him each time.
Until the night he randomly showed up at her bar and she had to serve him. Only that night, he met who she truly was. Alaska. She realized quickly her customer was Zuko but he didn't. There was nothing slow burn about this book but it still moved at a very engaging well scripted pace and it is something that I, as a reader, truly appreciates. It had that dark edge, the domineering alpha male and the woman devoured by his all-consuming, hot as hell presence.
I believe this is my first time reading T. L Smith but it will not be my last. Thoroughly enjoyed the writing, chemistry between characters and the interactions of those around the mains. Definitely recommend.
One thing I didn't like? There wasn't more.
