A young poacher is found shot in the woods of a grand estate near Mydworth.  A sad accident it would seem.  But the boy’s mothered is convinced it was no accident and when Harry and Kat investigate, they find the poacher’s life was not as innocent as he’d made out…

We’re back in Mydwroth with newlywed Harry Mortimer and his American bride Kat Reilly!  I thoroughly enjoyed ‘A Shot in the Dark’, the first of the Mydworth Mysteries series and this follow up was no different.
I love the relationship between Harry and Kat; their unspoken understanding of each other and the respect that Harry has for his wife, particularly when in the 1920s no one would dream of respecting their wives independence and intelligence to this extent!  It’s refreshing that the Mortimers are breaking the mould in Mydworth!
This is a perfect afternoon read and at only 120 pages it is perfect for when you have a short rest!
