clarice, you create are that settle an inner rhythm to my soul and are the reason why I’m not afraid to speak out of my heart
I made a valiant effort to force myself through this book (I got through about 50/160), since Clarice Lispector is supposed to be so amazing. I'm somewhat sure I've even heard her referred to as a feminist writer. I cannot read anymore of Ulisses barely disguised sexist bullcrap, or of Lori's pathetic attempts to connect and be desired by him in a way she clearly believes will satisfy the emptiness in her soul. Girl, please leave that man alone.

i love her writing style truly prose i also find the premise very interesting the afterword really helped me contextualize my feelings i think now the conflict in love is often portrayed as being able to love yourself but the requirement instead being embracing life in its fullness is very compelling
less mad than her other books but she still blew me away!!!

3.5, rounded up to 4.
I didn't much care for any of the characters here till about page 100, by which point I was already 2/3 of the way through the book, but as usual, Lispector's language shines. And those last 50 pages were special, even if I had to fight a bit to get there.
