I hope yall never settle for people like Ulisses.
goddamn. who tf needs therapy when u got clarice mf lispector. this book was lovely; lispectors iconic style of writing was magnificent and felt like a warm hug through the story of lori. amazing story showing us why we deserve to exist, why we’re deserving of love and finding the joy to living.
- will 100% be rereading with a pen in hand as lispectors writing is just too good, and this time around i had no such tools at my disposal to annotate.

I think the writing style is just not for me. Lots of really long musings that are kind of hard to interpret, and I didn't really like that the main character kind of had a helpless damsel thing going on where she puts the man on a pedestal. I'm not sure if there was going to be some kind of turn where she realizes she doesn't need to rely on him to tell her she's mature, or philosophical, or smart, etc. but I just wasn't interested at that point. I usually love character-driven stories but I guess I needed just a little more plot.

It wasn't entirely unpleasant — I enjoyed a lot of it — but I think this style of writing and the topics of God and introspection and whatnot are just not for me

All about wanting to be understood and loved. It feels fulfilling in the end, not because Lori and Ulisses fall in love, but because Lori accepts herself as a human being. All the unusual experiences and thoughts bring life to her writing. Sometimes I wish the writing style was a bit more literal, but I was still able to appreciate the picture Lispector was trying to make.
