muy segundo libro de trilogía if you catch my drift pero no por eso fue malo al contrario estuvo muy bien todo
y por favor EL FINAL,,, the AUDACITY of playing with my feelings like that, una falta de respeto total

I’ve fallen in love with these characters and I’m rooting for every single one. From Taishi’s biting critiques to Qisami’s hubris, I’m here for all of it. Bring on Book 3.

I find that I'm quite biased when it comes to Asian fantasy novels but perhaps that's why I love this series so much more than normal, I'm not sure - but what I do know is that I had a blast reading this book. With the slight subversion of the fated hero destined to destroy all evil, it's just so much fun to read. While, sure, Taishi/Jian could be argued as the main character, in my humble opinion there really isn't a single main character. Instead, we read through several different POVs. Usually, I'm not the biggest fan of this style because it can detract from the story but somehow I found it worked in this book's favor. While I will admit that it was a little hard for me to get into the story at first for this very reason, once the action caught up to the plot I was fully locked and loaded. I found it harder and harder to put this book down, wanting to know what was happening next. Also, can I mention just how funny the book is? You would think that because of how high stakes everything is in the world, everyone would be very serious and grim - but instead, we have so many funny characters and interactions that I found myself laughing at. It's the unseriousness of some characters that just does something to me that I love.
Just like the first book, my favorite character is Taishi and her bluntness. She's the strongest war artist of her time and remains the grumpy old woman who's just so much fun to read. It's so obvious that she loves Jian like her own and so seeing her panic and worry over the boy was so nice to read. I loved it. The other two POVs we see (Qisami and Sali) were interesting too, although it was a little hard for me to read through Sali's just because I thought it was a little...boring at first. But once the plot picks up and we get the history of Eternal Khan and how he came to be, I found myself enjoying her story just as much.
I recommend this series for those who are looking for an Asian fantasy story that balances its serious moments with comedy. I'll definitely be continuing this series!
