When an entire family, apart from young daughter Nixie are killed, Dallas is sure that it is an execution & that the remaining survivor is still a target. Dallas & husband, Roarke, take Nixie Swisher into their home to protect her, & it seems that dealing with an eight-year-old child may be the hardest task Dallas has ever faced.
I was a bit reluctant to read this one as sometimes putting a child character into these kind of books can backfire, but this one was actually okay. There were plenty of scenes with Peabody, & even Summerset, & Galahad (the cat) had larger roles in this book, & you can never have too much Galahad in a book. I did think it should have been about 50 pages shorter though as the case dragged a little towards the end.
