When the second book is better than the first due to completely believable character growth? *chef's kiss*
Fantasy can blur together and the world-building here was so well done while still prioritizing the characters. I think the religious fanaticism could be stronger, but its such a unique context for the story. It's very enjoyable.
I always really enjoy Carson's author's notes as well.

The Crown of Embers surprised me, I loved The first book; The Girls of Fire and Thorns but I didn’t love it like I loved this. I knew this book was going to be good but I didn’t realise this book was going to be amazing. I loved it, I highly enjoyed it and now I’m pretty sure Rae Carson is one of my favourite authors.

The Crown of Embers follows Elisa as she tries to rule a country that is in ruins from the war that has just ended. I loved this book mainly because this book has a bigger picture. Elisa learns through choices and mistakes she makes, she learns by doing the wrong things but at least she’s decisive about it. I loved watching her grow throughout the book, discover herself and gain confidence. The character development that was weaved throughout the story was amazing.

The romance in this book had my own stomach flipping. Stolen glances, forbidden feelings, secret moments. The way Elisa falls in love is deep, she truly cares for the man she has fallen for yet for her country she knows it is not possible and never will be for her to be with him. The pain she suffered from the fact of this was heartbreaking, yet she would put her country first and always. I loved that about her. She was strong and even in times of fear she was still able to appear strong.

Elisa is a strong character, she steadily grows throughout the book as she learns how to be queen of a country she has only recently become a part of. She was a very well rounded, deep character and I felt for her. I was able to connect with and understand her which I always find is incredibly important. All of the characters in The Crown of Embers were well rounded, I loved that. I loved everything about this book.

Overall, there were many, many things I absolutely loved about this book and nothing that I didn’t. The Crown of Embers flew past the first book in the series and is a definite read. It’s exciting, thrilling, interesting, addicting and one of the best books I have read.

I recommend this book if you like fantasy, romance, and good character development.

Always,
Jordon

OH MY GOD
THAT WAS EPIC
SOO GOOD

Crown of embers was such an improvement on the girl of fire and thorns.
I loooved Elisa’s character development and how strong and independent she became.

Hector and Elisa

Elisa and Hector gave the buzz that no one has given in a long time. Everything else was good too but I can’t think of anything else for now. Storm is funny I love him. Mara I love you. Belen’s best moment was when he was used for a moment between Elisa and Hector. #deathtobelen
adventurous challenging emotional hopeful tense fast-paced

Much much better than the first. This installment is saved by the ending and I actually look forward to the final book.

Well that was one of the best things I’ve read all year.

I just finished this like 30 seconds ago. If you heard a strangled scream that was me. I could see this cliffhanger coming I could see it and I knew there was nothing I could do to stop it and there is way too long before the next book comes out and I don't think I can handle it!

I loved this book. I loved it as much as the first one. This is a fantastic middle book of a trilogy, which is rare. I don't even know what else to say, except you need to read this series. The worldbuilding is fantastic, the characters are drawn so well. I think that Elisa is one of my new favorite YA heroines. I love how unexpected she is. How unsure she is, but in a realistic way with actual growth and movement. There are no flat characters here. Every single one moves, changes, and develops.

Love it!

CLIFFHANGER :(

Crown of Embers is the second book in the Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy, and it was SPECTACULAR. I loved the first book as well, but I definitely enjoyed the second book even more. It was so fast-paced and filled with magic, romance, adventure and everything I truly love in a book. I love Elisa and just how she's grown to be a strong main character. She goes through such a huge development throughout this book, and it was really enjoyable reading this and seeing her adapt to the dangerous situation that's she thrown into. Plot wise, this book is just like a movie. A really engrossing movie that keeps you awake until the next morning. Seriously, it was so hard for me to put this book down because I was so sucked into the story and I loved every moment of it. One of the great things is the romance. I'm not usually a big fan of romance in YA-fantasy, but the growing romance between Elisa and Hector is so well-done. It isn't rushed and there's so much tension between them and it has a great foundation as well. I ship them both so damn hard.

This trilogy is so fantastic and highly addicting. Please read this trilogy, it's so worth it. I don't know what more to say, only that it's definitely on my top 10 trilogies/series.

I’m so glad I did this reread through audio book! It’s so much fun listening to the pronunciations and hearing the passion in the words. I looooove how much Elisa grows. Also the relationships all feel so natural. Also while it talks about taking lovers it doesn’t go that far in the books and even mentions of it are vague so it’s totes appropriate for a classroom. I love the fantasy setting with Hispanic culture and characters and language. I love the slow burn romance, too. My favorite part is the inclusion of religion in all its aspects- from truly devout characters to those abusing the religion for their own aims. The way this book mixes in scripture and edits it enough to fit in this world is unique and awesome.
