Wow! This was an amazing story. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down.
Freaky Godstone aside, I love how much Elisa has grown from the first book and my mad crush on Hector continues. I had to keep reminding myself that Elisa was only 17 because she seems so grown up. (Although I don't really like thinking about that because I suspect Hector is much older than 17 and that would make the power couple in my mind very creepy.)
I can't wait to read book #3. And I just found out the author lives in Columbus so I'm sorely tempted to track her down and beg for a sneak preview. Although that probably wouldn't be a good idea.

This book came out Tuesday, I downloaded it onto my Kindle, and finished it Tuesday night :) It was THAT good. A great follow up to Girl of Fire and Thorns. It's a fast YA read, there is romance and adventure, and I'm wishing the final book was already out so I can find out the ending of Elisa's story!
ah!! this series. you grinned our of my the need to read your first chapters, the plot slowly killing (in a not good way) and then you throw an ending like that. granted it was only the last page that got my heart pumping but still. now I need to read the next one!!
I loved this book so much! It was significantly better than the first one which is so good because I greatly enjoyed the first one. I really love how Elisa is developing as a character and it was totally impossible to not love Hector :) I definitely recommend this series, it's a page turner.
I disagree with the reviewer who claims this end has no cliffhanger, because I have been left to die and I am DISTRESSED. Glad I had the foresight to get The Bitter Kingdom!
Ummm, excuse me? You can't end the book like that. That's not allowed.
My favourite thing about this series is that Elisa changes. They aren't minor changes, they are major and we see her grow from a sheltered child to a queen. In this one, she experiences love and making that jump to lovers. She also learns about power and discovers what she feels she needs to rule her country with a firm hand. It is really amazing to see Elisa change. She becomes more and more a true queen. She does things that she doesn't want to because it shows that she won't tolerate whatever happened.
The romance in between Elisa and Hector was very interesting. The path that they would take if they became a couple would be so very rocky. It would be full of challenges and hardships. Elisa doesn't know if she wants to be with him for long or for short because she must marry to make her country strong.
Backstabbing, love, adventure, heartbreak and war, this book had it all. Elisa grows so much, becomes stronger and I can't wait to see her continue to do so. I can't wait for the next one. The conclusion has definitely been set up as a nail biter!

The second half of the book was a lot better than the first, especially with that ending.
