The Sister

Following the death of her best friend Charlie, Grace has been a mess. When Grace starts looking for Charlie’s dad to give her some kind of closure she finds Anna, a girl claiming to be a long lost sister. But something isn’t right; things disappear, someone complained at her work and Grace thinks someone’s following her. Is someone out for Grace?

I actually really loved this book. The suspense was killing me especially how most chapters seemed to leave me on a cliffhanger making me keep reading to find out more. I think all the supporting characters played an important part in this and they were all fleshed out appropriately. I really enjoyed reading about how Dan and Grace got together when they were younger. I think the ending was written a little rushed? It felt like everything was being revealed at once which I would have preferred a gradual reveal but that’s me just being picky.

Overall, a very well written psychological thriller and I’m honestly surprised this was the author’s debut novel as it was just so good

Very good book... Lots of twists.

Very predictable story, and somewhat annoying characters.

The story started at a fast pace and I was really intrigued but slowly it started going downhill. The mid portion of the story just dragged on and I was frustrated. Towards the ending it did pick up the pace again so I was hopeful but the end was so disappointing for me. I was so irritated that whatever suspense it did built up just went out the window in the end and the story took a turn that I didn't like at all. It was an uphill battle to finish.

P.S. - I would really encourage you to try it yourself and form your own opinion about it.

Never heard or read anything by this author.
Finished it in a few hours because I had to know what happened.

A bit of a slow start but then really picked up speed a third of the way in. Every time I thought I had a theory of "whodunnit" I was wrong or was directed in a different direction. The ending was a bit anti-climatic in my opinion. The protagonist reminded me a lot of Rachel from Girl on the Train. Overall not bad but felt like the ending was a place to just throw in things to make a quick ending. 3.5/5.

"Kaksikõde" on taolisi raamatuid, mida lihtsalt ei suuda käest ära panna, poole peale jõudes oli see juba nii põnev. Proovisin välja mõelda, et kes on see naine ja mida ta tahab. Siiski no ilmselgelt olid asjalood Annaga seotud.

I have to say that I am literally gob smacked that this is the authors debut novel. I mean, to be able to write a story that is woven with so many twists and turns has got to be quite an achievement on it’s own, but to be able to get it spot on in your very first novel? Well that is exactly what Louise Jensen has gone and done.

The Sister is literally full of mystery and suspense that constantly has the reader trying to guess in between the lines.

Grace and Charlie were the best of friends and living out of each others pockets growing up. When Charlie dies, Grace really struggles to carry on with her life as she has so many unanswered questions. The friendship between Grace and Charlie was really great to read, they are very close and through the author I could also very much feel the sense of loss and sadness that surrounds Grace after Charlie’s death.

The story flicks between the past and present which really draws the reader into the whole storyline, so much so that I felt so connected with Grace and everything that was going on around her, that I felt like I was going slightly mad with all the horrible things that seemed to keep happening to her.

When Anna turns up in Graces life, I was really wary. She just seems to good to be true and around the same time everything in Graces life starts to take a very dark and sinister turn.

It’s very obvious that all isn’t as it seems, but boy, when Grace does get to the bottom of everything that is going on, it certainly took me by surprise!

The Sister is a wonderfully dark and sinister read that had me hooked from start to finish and I can’t wait to see what else the author has in store for us readers in the future.

My thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
