Sadly this book was a load of nonsense. Highly illogical, confusing (not in a good, page turning way) and characters that acted so stupidly and against all common sense that it made me want to scream. Thinking about it now makes me shake my head in disbelief and.... WTF? Seriously WTF?
"A Psychological Thriller with a brilliant twist you won't see coming"
Blurb Extract: Grace hasn't been the same since the death of her best friend Charlie. She is haunted by Charlie's words, the last time she saw her, and in a bid for answers, opens an old memory box of Charlie's. It soon becomes clear there was a lot she didn't know about her best friend.
When Grace starts a campaign to find Charlie's father, Anna, a girl claiming to be Charlie's sister steps forward. For Grace, finding Anna is like finding a new family, and soon Anna has made herself very comfortable in Grace and boyfriend Dan's home.
But something isn't right. Things disappear, Dan's acting strangely and Grace is sure that someone is following her. Is it all in Grace's mind? Or as she gets closer to discovering the truth about both Charlie and Anna, is Grace in terrible danger?
There was nothing she could have done to save Charlie ...or was there?

I had read a variety of reviews on this book prior to reading it with drastically different views on how the plot played out and the pace of the story.
The story alternates between the past and present and tells the story of how she met Charlie, how they became best friends and how she is coping after her best friends death.
It starts in the present. Grace goes to out to dig up a memory box that her and Charlie buried years before to find out what Charlie had put inside an envelope that was sealed inside the box. Once Grace opens it and realises charlie wanted to find her father she tries to locate him. In comes Anna , who claims to be Charlie's half sister. Grace feels a connection with Anna, who claims she needs help with a new job and place to live. So she moves in with Grace and her boyfriend Dan, who isn't best pleased about the who situation. Things go from bad to worse for Grace....
I enjoyed reading "The Sister", however I do feel it was a very slow burner and although Louise Jensen has great story telling ability it did take a very long time to get to how Charlie died, and what she meant when she said "I did something terrible, Grace. I hope you can forgive me."
If I am being truly honest it was kind of obvious to me how it was going to turn out, there wasn't really any amazing twist. I didn't really feel excited by this , which is a shame as the majority of reviews had been really positive.
I did find that I was glued to the book ( I read it all in about 7-8 hours) but It was more so because I wanted to it to get to the point and find out what this big secret was that lingered throughout the whole book.
I am a really impatient person so it may just be me but i do prefer a book that gets in to the nitty gritty a lot sooner.
All in all it was a fun book so i give it a 3 out of 5

Creepy and frightening...The Sister was gripping and chilling from the get go. I loved the premise and was compelled to keep reading until I found out what would happen to the characters.
The main character is woefully idiotic. Half the plot could be resolved much quicker had she just used better judgement. Huge let down.
This was ok. Perhaps I'm getting a little jaded from mystery thrillers, perhaps the subtitle of this book shouldn't set the bar so high by declaring "A psychological thriller with a brilliant twist you won't see coming"....
We find Grace coping with the recent death of her best childhood friend, Charlie, distancing herself from her live-in boyfriend, Dan, as she prefers to go to and from work and drink alone at home before abusing sleeping pills prescribed by her doctor after the funeral. Lexie, Charlie's mother, blames Grace for her daughter's sudden death but is probably projecting her own shortcomings and is likely hiding a secret she's tried for years to cover up with her alcoholism.
I rather did enjoy the back and forth of the timeline, revealing eccentric and slightly horrifying bits of the past to break up Grace's monotonous, paranoid present. The reliance on sleeping pills seemed obvious and yet in the end, was pretty much irrelevantexcept when she basically ends up drugging herself so that Anna can hold her hostage within her own fire-damaged home (thanks to Anna for that as well) so really, most of what is revealed is revealed again as a red herring, one after the other... to the point where I'm not sure WHICH was the "brilliant twist".
I did like Grace despite the back and forth of whether or not she is an unreliable narrator, or just a nervous one, but as a whole the ending was a little too neat for me to love. There are several surprises in store here but sort of over-the-top to the point that by the epilogue I nearly forgot about Charlie. Otherwise: solid.

Because I’ve been reading the same type of books for the last month or so, I’ve become pretty good at guessing the twits and events that are going to happen. I predicted most of the twists and the ending itself, but I still liked the book, because there were still some things I wasn’t able to guess or predict. The next book I’ll be reading is The Gift, also by Louise, so I’ll see which one I like better.
Great read. Took a little while to get into it but then I couldn't put it down. It's light on the psychological thriller but just enough for me!
Edit: looking back I was a little annoyed that the time capsule showed up at the start with a pink envelope which is ON THE FRONT COVER and was never picked back up in the story and held no significance

A good enough thriller to keep you going. But way too much happens. It was like the author jam-packed every single element of what makes a thriller into this little one, so it gets tedious. More like a telenovela. Good enough if you want a quick and easy read.
A debut novel that definitely packed a punch! While at times things seemed predictable, all the pieces weren't there to make a complete picture. This kept me guessing and wondering the whole novel, which is exactly what I look for in a book like this. I never knew which characters were trustworthy and I loved it! If you enjoy a good book that plays mind games with you, pick this up - it will not disappoint!
