The story begins with a woman called Grace, who misses her dead Childhood friend Charlie and is wracked with guilt over something that happened in the past. Grace lives with her childhood sweetheart Dan, who is not very emotionally supportive, although he tries and fails most of the time
Midway through the story, Charlie's half sister Anna enters the picture, and strange things begin to happen that unsettles Grace. The full story and the main reasons for Grace's guilty conscience, is partly told through flashbacks as well as glimpses of the present.
I found the book OK, nothing special...just OK. Some of the sentencing structures were a little all over the place. However, I was a little disappointed at the ending. I found some parts in the last few chapters to be unrealistic, and absurd. Plus, I found myself wanting to shake Grace at times, because of her innocence. She just seemed too innocent and unbelievable to me most of the time. I found Dan, the boyfriend increasingly annoying as the story progressed, and I so badly wanted to slap him!
It was not the worst book ever, but a literary masterpiece it ain't! It did the job, and kept me occupied for a while. I suppose... :-)

Another day, another fabulous book by @fabricating_fiction
These books make me feel uneasy but in a good way. I try to predict the endings but never get them right. This is gripping and unputdownable. I am a huge fan of Louise’s- she has a talent for pulling me into the story. I’m gutted that I only have The Gift and the Family left to read

This was supposed to be a psychological thriller with an unexpected twist, but there was way too much foreshadowing (including the title) for this to surprise me. I knew how it was going to end about 1/3 through the book, but I wanted to stay to watch the trainwreck. Good audible narrator.
Somewhat predictable and not the greatest writing ever, but it was an interesting story that kept me engaged and everything wrapped up at the end.
Many thanks to Netgallery and the Publishers in allowing me this ARC. Fantastic storyline, really enjoyed it, loved how to story kept going back into the past/present as it gave you a clearer picture of what happened earlier on.
A psychological thriller with a brilliant twist you won't see coming. When this is only cover I usually roll my eyes. But That's the promise in the title and I still went with it.
The main character, Grace, was well developed. I could sympathize with her up to a point. At times she seemed too needy, too paranoid, and too willing to jump to conclusions. I liked Charlie because she was stronger but it bugged me that they wasnt more issues with Lexie by otheres that knew how she was.. Anna was everything I expected her to be.
Supporting characters like Dan, Grandma and Grandad and Lexie were important. Grace's mother could have been left.
The switching from Then to Now and back was not a problem for me, it was clear. But I had to pay close attention to the titles. Many times a Now followed a Now, for instance.
This was a well written debut novel. I felt an impending doom throughout the book, and it held my interest to the end. I think I would have left the title as just "The Sister. I read the other sister novel by lipton I believe thinking it was this book. This one was much better thank goodness.
