I found this book challenging, not the content but the sheer size but I'm glad I kept going.  It was superb, well written, funny, thoughtful and inspiring.

Imagining you have a plan for a fresh start but the plan is gate crashed at every opportunity by friends and acquaintances.  Well this is pretty much what happens to Emmet and his brother Billy as they "try" to embark on a journey from one side of America to the other using the Lincoln Highway in search of their Mother.

This didn’t work for me. I found Towles writing style grating - his characters are Looney Toons caricatures of people but they’re seemingly occupying a word filled with real people, and it just didn’t gel.
