I had a little difficulty getting into the book, but I’d say about 1/3 in I couldn’t put it down. I loved Billy, Wooly, Sally, and Ulysses and I was meh about Emmett. The ending was great! Definitely did not expect some of the twists but I thought it was fitting for the characters.
I loved this book. The writing was so great. It's a captivating coming of age adventure story with action at the turn of every page and great characters. It reminded me a bit of This Tender Land or possibly even a more modern Tom Sawyer/ Huck Finn.
I think I might have found my new favorite author. This novel has so many richly developed characters and while it is a bit 'fantastical' it is also completely believable. The audio version was a delight and so well done. But I wish I'd bought the print version as I think this will be a classic to loan and then eventually to return to.
What a book. Reads almost like the catcher and the rye. Follows the tail of 2 brothers looking to move to california, but take a detour when 2 friends escape from prison and pay them a visit.
It starts a little slow but pick up, especially towards the end. The ending fantastic.

I enjoyed and liked this book. I read a lot of it with an audiobook and it helped me follow along with multiple characters and help me read this large book. The book was actually interesting and a page turner despite its large size. I have been putting it off due to its large size but it was good and entertaining, especially with the audiobook. Many characters and they were all lovable in their own way. The reason I did not give it 5 stars is that the title did not seem to match the story. I thought the story would take place along the Lincoln Highway which went from New York City to San Fransisco, California. The book mainly takes place in New York. I think it would been good and cool if more books were published as a series to watch the characters go along the Lincoln highway to the final destination. The book just seemed to end abruptly and with a few questions still to answer.
Re-read was even more enjoyable than the initial. Such a satisfying ending.
3 stars isn’t bad, but quite a disappointment after Rules of Civility holds the place for my favorite 2024 read this far. I felt like the story went on much too long, with a few too many POVs. Towles writing is still solid though! And this paired well with Independence Day weekend.
