I’ve read all three of Amor Towels novels and this was my least favorite of the three. It is an interesting story about a 1950s American trip embarked upon by a couple of 18-year-old boys and an 8-year-old boy who never quite make it to their destination. To me it seemed a bit wordy and slow moving. Of course, you may have a totally different opinion. Still worth the read.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
From NPR Review:
“The Lincoln Highway is a joyride. Amor Towles' new Great American Road Novel tails four boys — three 18-year-olds who met in a juvenile reformatory, plus a brainy 8-year-old — as they set out from Nebraska in June, 1954, in an old Studebaker in pursuit of a better future. If this book were set today, their constant detours and U-turns would send GPS into paroxysms of navigational recalculations. But hitch onto this delightful tour de force and you'll be pulled straight through to the end, helpless against the inventive exuberance of Towles' storytelling.”

So many fellow readers highly recommended this book that I tried so hard yo find it compelling. I gave it a full two-thirds through before I just said, "Nah, not my cup of tea." I'm hopeful that Towles' "Gentleman from Moscow" is more engaging.
This is the kind of book I love: a masterfully written, character-driven story with just the right amount of detail and a surprise around every corner. It's the kind of book that will stay with me. I'm sad that it's over.
Excellently audio version. Slow at points. Great ending.
