Did not expect that ending!

I don't give many books a 5-star review, but this was an excellent psychological thriller. It's well-written with surprising twists and fully believable characters.

A good study into how unknowable even those closest to us can be, how appearances can be deceiving, and the importance of trust. I think this book will stay with me for a while.

It wasn't bad, it wasn't great. It was easy to figure out the sort of "surprise" twist at the end before it came. But it feels like it was a situation that could be remedied if the main character just started to be honest. With everyone - especially herself. But, that is probably some blame the victim mentality and I don't want to go there. Still.

Very enjoyable and read it in 2 days. normally that means somthing is an easy read but without much substance but this book has left me pondering for a while.

spoiler beyond this point....

I think the 'reveal' is signposted quite early on in this book but that's not a criticism. The pent up anger of the situation increases due to this and I really liked that notion at the end of the book that while Robert seems to think that the awful incident is behind them, his unwitting reveal - that he finds it less traumatic for his wife to be raped than for him to cope with being cheated on- is bubbling away under the surface for Catherine and won't stay that way for ever.

GREAT Fabulous wonderful! Amazing story! Thought it was going one way but then it didn't go there! The BEST kind of plot! The writing and characters were really strong, even the ones that weren't there. Very unique plot. Ke pt me guessing until almost the very end. So enjoyable. The author brainwashed me, which was pretty cool when I realized it.

Very good psychological thriller and suspense story with carefully timed backlashes by our narrator, going back to the summer of 1993 when she was on holiday with her 5 year old son. In the present tense she is a successful journalist / writer who receives a novel by mail that chronicles what happened that summer from someone else's perspective. Her inability to trust her husband with this "blast from the past" jeopardises more than her marriage.

CANT GET PAST THE ACCENT - AND BORING NARRATION

Good. Unexpected. Twisty and turn-y to the end, which I like. Some predictably, but not a lot. Worth reading.

The story was so well-written and packed with emotion. The way it all unfolded was tragic but in a way that felt so real and powerful. It’s one of those books that sticks with you and is definitely worth the read. Looking forward to the show!
