Really liked Kai and the pups.
Rick took some time to grow on me but it ended up being an enjoyable shifter series start.

TW: talks of child abuse and neglect

This book was pretty cute. But every time Rick called Kai pup I needed to put it down. And it happened way too frequently.

He also made a comment of him needing to talk to Vanessa to make sure she knows she needs to wait until Sammi is older before anything were to happen. That was super fucking gross and concerning. Try maybe not waiting until she's legal, but going for someone your own age and not being a creep? It was doubly weird because there was NO evidence of Vanessa feeling anything for Sammi, so why even throw that in? Sammi has a crush, so what? I never would've thought Vanessa would ever even humor it until that moment.

I feel like there wasn't any real depth to the characters, but I didn't mind too much considering what this book is.

Overall, fine, but I am looking forward to the next story! I'm interested in those two characters as a couple!

I really enjoyed this one.
We have a thriving pack with a good leader, which I always enjoy reading about, and pack members who generally like being part of the Kincaid pack. I enjoyed that most of the threats were from outside sources and that Kai wasn't a doormat.
So far, I'm looking forward to what happens next.

This was a very enjoyable start to the series. I really enjoyed the world building and the characters and it just made me want to continue reading the series.

I received an arc of this book and this is my honest opinion

I wasn’t aware this was a debut book from this author until after I had already finished it and I was pleasantly surprised. This was a great way to start off a new shifter series and I enjoyed the authors writing a lot:

Rick is the alpha of his pack and he does not and will not tolerate members of his pack stealing. While confronting a rather ruthless couple he comes across Kai and his siblings hiding in a shed — and he’s immediately taken by the guy who wasn’t afraid to stand up to an alpha to protect his younger siblings. But, first he decides to give them a home where they can finally be treated right.

Kai has always done what’s necessary to protect his siblings and when they’re found by the alpha he is unsure if what’s being offered is something he should trust. But, he’s even more unsure of what Rick expects from him and his feeling towards the older man.

The chemistry between Rick and Kai was off the walls and it was like a breath of fresh air when the two finally got together. Well, almost. There was a lot of back and forth especially of Rick’s part but when the two finally settled things I enjoyed it a lot.

If you’re a fan of shifter stories with first time romance, people out for revenge, siblings with a great bond and an alpha who just wants the best for his pack and mate — I recommend this one!

I really wanted to like this book more. It had some interesting parts for sure but the Alpha….I just could never connect with him. And he squigged me out when he kept on referring to his potential mate as “pup” (just as he did to all of the real pups who were underaged).

Kirt Graves is not my favorite narrrator…he’s been good on some books but this one…not so much.

I started of really liking this and then somewhere in the middle I kind of got bored. I lost interest in them but I had nothing else to do so I continued to listen to it.

One of the things that grated on me was the "term of endearment" the Alpha used for Kai, which was "pup". Throughout the book he kept referring to him as pup and essentially lumping him with all the other young shifters. It's just odd to be having sexual relations with your mate and calling him pup.
