Powerfully beautiful writing made more emotional as a love letter to the author's son. I feel honored that Ta-Nehisi Coates allowed me as a reader into his life and beliefs so intimately. 100% recommend the audiobook, to hear his writing in his own voice is incredible.

I didn't expect this to be written as a letter from a father to his son, but that, combined with hearing it in the author's voice as an audiobook made for a very powerful read. Coates' voice feels honest and real, while addressing incredibly challenging and personal topics. This is a great read, particularly as an audiobook.

I listened to the audiobook read by the author and it was fantastic. The writing is so well done and the framing of the novel as a letter to his child was so great. It was such a good glimpse into this man's growth as a human being and a black man. There was something special about this book and the careful way Coates engaged with his own history with different views on race. Many of his observations made me think and look at certain things in a new light.
