the first half of the book was okay... and then the conflict that occurred around the 60% mark just put me off the book completely. i tried skimming but i really could not push through anymore.

The only redeeming character was Kendall (his nickname is too ridiculous for me to type) especially since Lucy is an idiotic TSTL child (which is expected since the author made her 19 but still). Sophia was great and I'm looking forward to her book, but I just couldn't deal with Lucy's continued stupidity regarding Toby and I didn't even get why Kendall even liked her.

Not the usual standard of Tessa Dare.
Not the usual level of comedy which let the story down. The narrative was repetitive and the protagonists one dimensional. Analogies were overly fluffy and served nothing to the story.
Lucy is selfish, silly and ignorant. Jeramy is a horn dog and comes off like a cardboard cutout. I can understand a sexual attraction but struggled with their emotions toward each other and how they developed. Lucy so quickly changed her devotion from Toby to Jeramy I got whiplash! Jeremy's requisite secret seemed forced as it was expected of a Regency hero to have one and very obvious (which isn't a bad thing, just a point to note)
Lucy would have understood that she'd have to take on the duties of a countess and her protestations and silly antics to assert her tomboy 'independent' ways were slapstick, selfish and needless. Jeramy had an abrupt change of character once Lucy's hand had been secured. The setup for this had been made by Lucy's brother, Henry, advising that Jeramy may seem cold on holiday with they but he was worse in society.
It's amazing how much these two need to work on their communication, but then it would have been a very short story! Once they talk and Lucy grows up the story improves. On the plus side, the sexual tension was done well and the sex scenes steamy and raw.

If I didn't already really like Tessa Dare's writing style I probably would have had more of a problem with this and rated it lower. The 10 year age gap was super gross, especially because she was still a teenager and he has known her when she was younger. But just when their dynamic was growing on me and I thought maybe I could ignore how icky it was (it helped that losing her virginity wasn't super painful ), then Jeremy kept making choices that would make me not root for anyone to get with him. Definitely one of my least favorites of Tessa Dare's, but I am still hopeful I'll like the next 2 in the series more

The best part of this book is that you can easily skim 70% and totally understand the whole "plot".
