Okay, but not great. Cute historical romance but some parts seemed poorly written.

I have to admit, the cover and title really appealed to me. Coupled with many intriguing reviews, I was ready to love this book.

But it was midly disappointing. Too many misunderstandings flying around to keep track of. And you want to like the H/H: Lucy's a fun, bold, tomboy, seductress and Jeremy's a brooding Man. Until they both can't communicate worth crap and have so many insecurities simmering. Beyond frustrating.

Dialogue, plot, characters were enjoyable, but just so normal. Nothing special.

The narrator made this book an excruciating experience. The main character is a bit obnoxious, but giving her a lisp was A Choice.

Book-wise, way too long. It honestly felt padded to hit a page quota and may have been more enjoyable if you chopped off the last third.

(read as an ebook on my kobo)

So I haven't been able to really get into any books recently so I'm very thankful that this one caught my attention! It was exactly what I had been waiting to sink my teeth into. I'd forgotten how much I love historical romances! Lucy and Jeremy were both strong, independent and stubborn characters which made for a great read (Even though at some points I wanted to bash their heads together because they were trying so hard to ignore their magnetism to each other.)

Will definitely be picking up the next one in this trilogy!

This is quite the book. It is rather long but is broken up into two parts rather nicely and it doesn’t feel like it drags. A very can and sweet romance. I would expect nothing less from Tessa Dare.

Lucy thinks that she's in love with Toby, one of her brother's friends. When she finds out that Toby is going to propose to another woman, Lucy decides to try to change his mind. Lucy ends up making out with Jeremy, another of her brother's friends, so that she can practice before she makes her move on Toby. Eventually Lucy and Jeremy fake an attachment, while dealing with their changing emotions for each other.

Jeremy is emotionally shut off due to a tragedy that happened in his childhood. Lucy gets under his skin and he slowly opens up to her. He's obnoxiously controlling in the middle, but does get better towards the end. Lucy is fairly immature at the beginning of the book, but does improve as the book goes on. She figures out her true feelings pretty quickly and the Toby part of the story doesn't go on especially long. Lucy and Jeremy have good chemistry together, and they are good for one another after they figure things out.

I didn't love the age gap. He was 29 to her 19, and they've known each other for 10 years. Nothing happens until the opening of the book and it's not brought up too much, so it's not a giant deal, but I wasn't a fan. I'm just tired of reading books with 18-20 year old heroines and older heroes. Oh well.

3.5, more like, I think. I liked this a lot. The hurdles I expected, but I thought they were navigated well; I've always been a fan of a lot of the tropes employed, and while it didn't bring in anything new they were still fun to read in this book, in this style, with these characters; and I really, really loved Lucy. Dare has always seemed to be someone who's gotten better with each book, though, and this showed its age a bit.
