Absolutely adored this and will be starting the second book rjght away. Xingyin is on of my favourite protagonists I've ever read and I love everything about her character; I was never once annoued with her, what a breath of fresh air. The romantic plot lines were well done and I enjoyed them, cannot wait to see how that turns out. I'm vaguely familiar with the legend this story is based on, but everything is explained well enough that I was not confused.

this book was absolutely stunning. i don’t know how to describe the beauty of it in great justice but i can tell the amount of work put into this book and it served it well. i loved xingyin and seeing her grow into a strong woman made me feel like a proud mother.

however, the love triangle ruined it a bit for me. perhaps i’m a bit too old for trope like this—younger me might have enjoyed it. in fact, i think younger readers aka the target audiences might savour it even. i imagine the idea of two beautiful men salivating at your feet would be attractive for the youngins.

for me? it’s a source of anxiety and annoyance. i have zero patience for wishy washiness of xingyin in this regard. i also heard that this trend follows into the second book. so, i decided to not pick it up and move on. be well!

That was a twist I didn’t see coming— and I don’t say that too often

I liked it a lot more than I expected. When it comes to legend retellings there have been many books that couldn't catch my interest. They would drag on. That is definitely not what happened here. It was fast paced with a lot happening. I was intrigued by the characters, although I had a hard time fully understanding the motives and actions of the main character sometimes. The book managed to hook me quite easily and I ended up devouring it quickly.

Daughter of the moon goddess was a fun and relaxing book which I enjoyed reading. I loved the way the author would describe certain aspects and was left in awe with some of the sentences throughout the story. Although, the ending felt slightly rushed as a lot of story was plotted into the final part which felt slightly overwhelming but overall I really enjoyed the story.

Reading this was a delightful experience, akin to being intoxicated by poetry. The cascade of words was bathed in the warm sunlight of emotion. In reality, it didn't thrust you immediately into the realm of a powerful heroine, but instead, it showcased her gradual growth into one, and even more. The narrative unveiled the intricate dynamics of surrendering control to life and its offerings, capturing the fleeting fragments that one could grasp. The story intertwined grit, grief, and madness, often unveiling the poignancy of first experiences. The narrative's twists and turns were masterfully crafted, prompting contemplation within the romantic facets, both paths feeling valid. It not only left room for a potential sequel but also stood strongly as a complete tale in its own right. In the latter sections, I found myself drawn to the evocative emotions it evoked and the eventual embrace of closure. Sacrifices were made and the notion of sacrifice was far from concluding easily. Truly, I adored it!

Excellent, creative fantasy romance. I felt a little distanced from the main character (I feel like we never really get to know her beyond the surface level, despite being in her head for the whole book) but I still liked her. Very much looking forward to the sequel, and I appreciate that the first book still ended in a satisfying way and not on a cliffhanger!

This stands as one of my favorite YA fantasies. Sue Lynn Tan developed such a stunningly strong FMC in a beautifully whimsical world. With a cast of characters that I love (and loved to hate) I was enthralled by Xing Yin’s quest to save her mother and claim her freedom.
