This was a beautiful and elegantly written story inspired by a wonderful legend. The magic and atmosphere was truly incredible. The action also never seemed to cease. This novel was jam-packed with adventure from start to finish. I thoroughly enjoyed the fast-paced nature of the tale and the wonderful development of the characters. Particularly interesting to me was the growth of the protagonist in terms of her bravery and self-love. The romantic love triangle was also endearing and some excellent plot twists furthered the excitement.

I highly recommend this novel. I believe this is the first book in a series…? If this is the case, I really am looking forward to reading more installments by Tan.
