Everyone should read this series. Such a vast world while avoiding being overly complex for readers who feel overwhelmed with “high fantasy”.

Oh boy, a very nice addition to the series.

I am very prone to have a favourite POV when there are more than one. I was enamoured by Cettie from the first chapter of the first book. Sera's chapters were often just a distraction from my actual interest, but Sera has grown on me over the course of the last three books.

I admit that I often just want to skip ahead each time I reach Sera's parts, but I persist and start reading her parts, and each time the author manages to catch my interest in her story once again.

Sera has definitely redeemed herself in his book, she was flighty and naive, but has grown so much and become someone fit for the role of one day sitting on the throne. She is in many ways the more interesting character because her growth is so very visible, and her challenges and failure or success has so far been less predictable.

Cettie has from the start been the more reasonable and steadfast character, and certainly the admirable type, her faults are less obvious, which might make her less interesting to some. Her challenges has been less obviously difficult, and she has met them with success that is often easily predictable, which makes it less exciting to read, but I just love her character as well as her story, and will continue being intrigued with her next step in her story.

And now my little victory dance about my suspicions which were fulfilled from the first book.
SpoilerI can't contain myself, my suspicions about Lady Corinne being the villain behind the curtains were correct, and what a villain she is, and Cetties mother to boot, I love the intrigue to come in the next books.

Disclaimer: I received this book free from Netgalley in return for an unbiased review.

He did it again. Mr. Wheeler sets about making me care about people and then up-ends them. Twice in this book! Once in the first chapter!! I expect this kind of tricksy-ness from George R. R. Martin, but you sir! Don’t stop! 😊

These are such great books. Cettie, is becoming a force to reckon with. Her power is unstoppable but it is tempered with such a sweetness of character. I adore her and her entire adopted family. Yeah that’s right, I said all of them. Even a little more after this book. (no spoilers!)

Sera is fast becoming a favorite as well. She’s a canny, brave little thing. I love that her story line is taking her straight to our beloved Kingfountain. Oh, oops that was a spoiler, but I won’t say more. Other than there is the promise that a character of some renown from the Kingfountain books will be making an appearance in the series. CAN NOT WAIT!

Like the other books in the series this one is highly readable, smoothly written and absorbing. However, this is not something you can pick up in the middle of the series. I would recommend going back to at least book one of the Harbinger series, if not all the way back to the beginning of his books … actually yes … do that last thing. If you love a good long series like I do then by all means get to steppin’. In case you needed any more incentive most of them can be found on Kindle Unlimited. Now I just have to wait until book 4 comes out in March 2019. I think I can make it!

Enjoyed this book infinitely more than the last. Things are happening! The world building was interesting and the politics and reveals twisty, and generally a read I bolted through so quickly. Looking forward to the next instalment!

We enter the scene three years later, and Sera and Cettie have both matured and grown. Their circumstances and responsibilities have formed them into new people - but better.

Sera is more reticent, keeps her own counsel and has unintentionally learned the art of manipulation. That may sound like a negative, but because she's honest she works through this as well as other issues.

Cettie has the responsibility of caring for the family home and has earned the respect of many, though there are some who just can't get past her background. As the threads in the story twisted and reformed, I found myself spinning as I wondered what would happen next.

I know that Wheeler doesn't mind having these go awry and I still don't have a clear picture where this tale will land in the next book! I love a good surprise.

Iron Garland has been my favorite in the Harbinger series because the intensity is ramping up exponentially. This series is a must read for fantasy lovers.

I also love the covers! I find them artistic and refreshing.

Oh my gosh. That was so good. I just finished reading the epilogue a few minutes ago and I'm so tempted to pick up the next audio book soon.

What I liked:

- Sera's pov is fantastic. I never disliked her but when reading the first book I couldn't see why anyone would want to leave Cettie's pov for Sera's. I thought it was boring and dull. And after the obvious wrong choices she made in the previous book its great to see her growth in this book. Her arc has a lot of political moves and I really love that.

- Cettie...I've always loved Cettie. She's fantastic and one of my favorite "rags to riches" characters I've read. I get so anxious reading her POV because if anything ever happens to her I will riot. Anyways, she's so pure and fantastic and smart.

- At this point I trust....hmmm Lady Maren and Fitzroy. Why have you made me question myself, Mr Wheeler?

What I didn't like:

- the feelings I felt. :(

You might like this series if you enjoy:
- Victorian/Edwardian sensibilities
- Flying/floating cities in the sky
- magic systems that are kept hush hush
- slower paced. you wont get a lot of action.
- politically driven
- the relationships are so well done

Remember to start with Storm Glass (Harginger #1). I really really want to read the rest of the books in this universe ♥
