I am trying to figure out why I waited so long to start this series! It is really good - a plus is a love anything written that takes place in the South!

This Mississippi Delta mystery is cute and charming. I'll read more of this series.

Not bad!

I was not impressed by the hissed warnings of trouble for digging up the past that dogged the first half of the book, but it was a fun read, and I like the atypical romance arc. Will read more!

THEM BONES is a little saucier than the cozies I'm used to reading, but it's also super fun and entertaining. Sara Booth Delaney is an interesting heroine. She's likable even though she's not the nicest or most moral woman in the world. Her willingness to use people for their money is a definite point against her. Still, I enjoyed her as a character and narrator. Her fellow Zinnians are colorful, although most of them aren't overly likable either. Many of them are immoral if not totally greedy/corrupt/evil. I get that people have to have their secrets in order for there to be a story, but I would have liked more genuinely good characters in THEM BONES. As far as plot goes, this novel moves at a fair clip. It definitely kept me turning pages. Although I probably should have seen the Big Reveal coming, I didn't, so that was a nice surprise. An engaging plot, plus assured prose and a dynamic, atmospheric setting all added to my enjoyment of this book. I do prefer my cozies to be cleaner than this one, but overall, I quite enjoyed this series opener. I'll definitely be reading the next book.
