So I had actually bought all four books in a Kindle "boxed" set, but I won't be finishing this series. It just wasn't really what I thought it was. For one thing, the beginning felt incredibly rushed, and the world wasn't explained well, to the point where I didn't understands why there was a death lottery in the first place and was still questioning why I should care about the main character. It just isn't for me, and this is why I don't really do the boxed sets of Kindle books anymore, even when they seem like they're a great price, because the quality tends to not be great.

I thought this book was pretty good. I continued reading it because I was just as curious as the main character as to how the Earth became the place it is in the book. Although I don't know how to code, the jargon did not confuse me while reading. I would be willing to read more of the series.

Half baked writing style and plot, forgettable characters.

the story was ok at first an interesting concept. it's fast paced which also means there is little explanation as to why things are happening
I stopped reading with 50 mins to go so can't say if the ending was any good. would have liked more background info into how the dome was created and why but just couldn't be bothered finishing it.

This book made me think of made-for-tv movies that are entertaining enough to keep your attention and are worth putting up with the ads for, but not really something you get really invested in. I put this book down several times because the pacing was kinda off for me. At times it felt like it was going too fast, other times too slow. Yet 90% or so of the book takes course over just a few days, I think.
The characters were interesting enough, if a little predictable, but I just couldn't bring myself to get invested in their story. Again, this may be a pacing issue. I certainly can't blame the world building. The world of Code Breakers is easy enough to see and understand. I even appreciate the diversity of types of survivors, even if some of them are a bit stereotypical. I do wish more of the technology used was a little bit better explained. As it was, a lot of it felt more like it was magic than technology (and yes, I know the quote).
The ending was also very reminiscent of a made-for-tv movie. I read and thought "really?"
The e-book only costs 99 cents and that's a good deal for its entertainment value. I probably won't pick up the second book though.
