Severed Heart is a spin-off prequel to the original Ravenhood trilogy, the story of Tyler and Delphine. Tyler’s love for Delphine is the ultimate slow-burn, spanning years. Severed Heart was spicy and emotional, once again giving us a glimpse of the characters in Triple Falls. I highly recommend reading the original Ravenhood Trilogy and One Last Rainy Day before starting Severed Heart to have more context for some of the storyline and check the trigger warnings if you are sensitive to any topics. Be ready for an emotional roller coaster and a view into what made Delphine the way she is. I will not reveal any spoilers. I think the storyline is better if you go in blind. I am giving Severed Heart a rating of 4 / 5 stars. I highly recommend the audiobook, which I listened to while reading. I loved the narrator’s accent for Delphine. Once again, I am looking forward to the next installment in the series.

I just finished Severed Heart by Kate Stewart, and I’m completely wrecked—in the best way possible. I always expect an emotional rollercoaster from Kate, but this one went above and beyond. She didn’t just tell a story of love, heartbreak, and healing—she delivered something raw, powerful, and deeply human.
Tyler and Delphine’s journey has always felt layered and complex, but this book gave their individual stories the depth and nuance they truly deserved. Even knowing how things would ultimately end, nothing could have prepared me for the emotional impact.
What really set Severed Heart apart was the way Kate wove in real-life issues. She didn’t shy away from the difficult topics—she faced them head-on. The story brought attention to the ongoing mental health struggles of America’s service members, not as a side note but as a consistent and meaningful thread throughout the book. She also shed light on the long-lasting trauma of physical, emotional, mental, and sexual abuse in a way that felt heartbreakingly real. At times, it felt like I wasn’t just reading—I was experiencing it alongside the characters.
This book wasn’t just a read. It was a full-body experience.
