I wanted MORE from the show, it felt very surface level, nothing I wouldn’t have heard elsewhere. Still enjoyable to read though!

REVIEW: Welcome to Pawnee by Jim O'Heir

I was excited to read Welcome to Pawnee as a big fan of the Parks and Rec TV show. It is a fun, comfort show with many great cast members. I also thought hearing it in Jim O'Heir's (aka Jerry) would be a unique view.

There were some fun behind-the-scenes stories throughout the book. I loved hearing about how close the entire cast was throughout their filming. It was enjoyable to hear how close Rhetta and Jim were since they both started as side characters before getting a regular role. Jim also talks about some of his struggles with casting and photo shoots due to being only known as a side character at the time. I loved hearing from some of the book's producers and other cast members, such as Chris Pratt, Retta, Adam Scott, and even Amy Poehler.

Welcome to Pawnee lacked in a few areas. The organization was a struggle. It kept circling and felt like there needed to be a more precise direction. He often would say, "Back to my original story." This book is also very surface-level. We don't hear much personally about Jim besides when his mom passed away. His book became quite repetitive and stretched longer than it was needed.

Overall, Welcome to Pawnee is a simple, fun read if you are a Parks and Rec fan, but it doesn't get too deep into anything. This book is very conversational, which can be a good thing; it just didn't work well for this book.

Thank you, Netgalley and William Morrow, for the free advanced copy for my honest review!

This is perfect for fans of Parks and Rec! I loved the lighthearted nature and enjoyed seeing all the behind-the-scene photos. I did feel a bit bored at times and wanted some more depth.

This book was everything I was hoping it would be and more. Parks and Rec is one of my ultimate comfort shows and I loved getting a behind the scenes look at the positive work environment that was fostered by the cast and crew and also some fantastic stories from some of my favorite episodes. Also, I really enjoyed Jim O’Heir’s writing style and related to him in so many ways. The way he wrote about his costars turned friends was so lovely and it makes me want to rewatch the show immediately with the new knowledge of I gained from this book. I laughed several times (no surprise there) and teared up a few as well. I think this is a must read for any Parks and Recreation fan.

Thank you to NetGalley and William Morrow for an advanced digital reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review.

As a huge fan of Parks and Rec when I saw that Jim Heir was writing a memoir I knew I needed to read it. His stories were a sweet recollection of his time on the show. I loved the inside view.
