Twisted Lies was a captivating read with some standout moments, especially when it came to the romance between Stella and Christian. Their chemistry felt real, and I appreciated how their relationship developed over time, slow burn but rewarding. The dynamic between them added layers to the story, and I found myself rooting for them.

Christian's character was a definite highlight. His growth was compelling, with a well-crafted backstory that even connected to Twisted Hate, which gave depth and context to his actions. He had some intense scenes, though, where the violence was a bit too detailed for my taste. Thankfully, these scenes were not directed at Stella, but it was still something I felt could’ve been toned down.

On the other hand, Stella’s character arc left me wanting more. Her growth often depended on Christian rather than coming from within. It felt like there was potential for her to be a stronger, more independent character, which would have made her story even more powerful.

Despite that, there were some beautiful lines that I absolutely loved. Christian’s words, “My dream is to be with you. And my biggest fear, is losing you,” were especially memorable.

Overall, Twisted Lies was enjoyable with a well-crafted romance and complex hero, even if it left a bit to be desired for Stella's individual journey.

Het boek was oké, maar de morally grey male characters zijn niet mijn favoriet. Ze moeten zeker niet perfect zijn, maar dit is niet helemaal mijn ding.

It could have been 100 pages shorter. The book kept repeating events and I just wanted it to move on. I like Stella & Christian’s stories but it took a LONG time to get here. The end of the book is nice…it wraps it up and lets you know where the characters are in their lives.

Now that I have finally finished all 4 books, the following is a review of the final book as well as the whole Twisted series.

Once again, Ana Huang has penned a pretty good book that I found entertaining enough and the story engrossing enough that it took me about a day to read. “Twisted Lies” is probably the most involved of all of the series, plot wise, and also the longest. (Maybe too long?) The story line also has a mystery/thriller aspect since the FMC’s stalker’s identity is a question that drives much of the book as do his actions. If I had to pick a favourite, it would be this one simply because the plot was less dependent on spice than the others - though it was definitely present (🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️) and more of a slow burn.  And, of course, Huang has created another morally grey (and borderline psychopathic) MMC though Christian is different from Alex, Rhys, and Josh despite them all being wildly possessive alpha males with extreme “touch her and die” vibes.

But, as with the first three books, despite all this, the moral centres of Huang’s MMCs are just too toxic and problematic for my comfort level. Not to mention their penchant for bypassing consent and the use of denigrating language whenever intimate scenes occur. IMHO, these are red flags that run contrary to what it means to be a modern woman. Wild sex that is enjoyable for both parties, no matter how many kinks, should not automatically include old school slurs that are meant to bring up feelings of shame and this happens in every book. On the other hand, if that is your bag, no judgement. All of this is merely one reader’s opinion.

Much of what I want to say about the series has already been said in my past reviews but there are a few more things worth mentioning.

On the plus side, the author has a check list of the most popular tropes (enemies to lovers and forced proximity being favourites) and she goes through them one by one so you know pretty much what you will get. On the minus side, she has a check list of the most popular tropes and she goes through them one by one which is not exactly a stretch for the imagination if you read all four.

To be fair, each book is slightly different and they are all connected by the friendship of the four FMCs (a plus as far as I am concerned) with great interactions between them. The found family is the emotional lodestone that helps to balance other aspects. In fact, I would say that this series can be considered fan fiction for Candace Bushnell’s “Sex & The City” except that all of them seem to have Samantha’s appetite and all of them connect with an even more toxic version of Mr Big’s emotionally unavailable character.

In light of these points, I can hear you asking: Why did I read them all? Why did I even buy them? My answer to this, as I explained in my book 3 review, is literary FOMO and my inability to resist a beautifully made special edition book by Fairyloot. And I did enjoy them all but the red flags that kept cropping up dampened my enthusiasm for the them and the series as a whole and my ratings.

But if you like dark and morally grey with great banter, more power to you and this series is a good choice. But, like I said, my opinion is only that: mine. Maybe you should decide for yourself….
