I really wanted to like this one, but RW came across as disingenuous, and I realized that I did not really care about the stories she was writing about. I am usually a fan of celebrity memoirs, but I just didn't click with Rebel Rising.

I loved this. What a fun read and a way to get an authentic autobiography. I was a fan before and am more so now!

This was a really good book to end my year on. It was inspiring to see how Rebel found her place and things eventually clicked. Some parts were pretty out of touch, she talks about being “bogan” which is Australian white trash, but she went to an all girls private school and she used to visit her grandmother’s beach house — some parts feel rather materialistic, but once you overlook that, it was a good read. Her writing style is incredibly conversational, I really felt like she was telling me a story just for me, The first half was about her childhood and it was cool to see how she grew up, how she overcame challenges in school, her gap year in South Africa, got into law school, kept trying to get into a drama school that rejected her, and then how she got her start in acting. She certainly struggles with her weight, and it’s interesting to see the back and forth with emotional eating followed by her path to healthier living and self love. There was a lot of name dropping and self promotion (she had her party on the same island as Kim Kardashian, and she planned it BEFORE Kim), but the name dropping certainly made the book juicy. There were some vulnerable moments, such as filming with Sacha Baron Cohen and how he sexually harassed her as she was starting out in her career. She also opened up about her romantic life and how she eventually found happiness in that area as well — it gave me hope for myself as I near my next year single as a Pringle, and getting sing of mingling. I feel the pressure she writes about with timelines and our bodies and feeling behind, and her acknowledgement/doing it on her own timeline is inspiring. A heart warming, humorous, little bit delulu read to say goodbye to 2024 and open my heart to the possibilities in the new year.

I enjoyed most of the stories behind Rebel Wilson's rise to fame, but she came across as pretty unrelatable. I also got tired of hearing about her weight. It consumed her and a lot of this memior. I get why, but it still took away from my enjoyment of this book.

This one seemed to take me extra long…  but I also had to start at regular speed so I could get into the rhythm of her accent.  By the end, I was up to 1.5.

I always like the celebrity memoirs when they read them themselves.  This was excellent.  I appreciate a lot of what she talked about (especially as I have weight stuff…), and appreciated her sharing her story.  She’s inspirational for all of the pieces that she has accomplished.  I guess that I really don’t know her for much more than the Pitch Perfect movies, but listening to the book made me want to go and look up some of her other pieces.

If you like this genre, or like her, definitely read it!

Who doesn't love Rebel Wilson? From her role in the "Pitch Perfect" franchise to her journey towards physical and mental wellness, she puts a smile on faces with everything she does. But her path to the star we know today came with many twists and turns. Wilson opens up her life to readers as she chronicles her life. From her youth as a junior dog handler, contracting malaria while traveling in Africa, to realizing what she wanted her career to be, Rebel is funny, honest, and open about it all. I appreciated her frank discussion of her health and fertility issues, something that many people can relate to as they struggle with those same things. Rebel Wilson has more than risen to all of the challenges and successes in her life!
