This review is posted on my blog

I received this as an advanced reading copy from DC Comics through NetGalley, and I would like to first thank them for the opportunity to read this comic.

This is the first 'The New 52' DC comic that I've read, so I was actually a little bit lost. I think that is honestly mostly because I am used to novels, where you pick up book 1 and read from 1 to 3, or 7, or whatever. The comic book world, I've found works a little bit like this: 'Oh! number 27, 15, 8, 42, and 9! I haven't read any of these but know basically what happens! I must buy them!' That being said this was pretty easy to pick up on what was happening in them.

I just heard that there will be a Suicide Squad movie so I'm pretty excited about this! I think it was a great introduction to what the series (line?) is all about. I particularly loved Harley Quinn! The Joker's daughter was really interesting too, and it really makes me want to read some other comics about him!

The publishers requested that all reviews be held until publication, which it is now available! However, as I wasn't sure if these were all published together or not, I will not go into any plot specifics, but rest assured it was really good. The art was beautiful and I actually read the whole thing in just one sitting!

This seems like a really great place to start if you are looking to start comic books, but I'm no expert! I particularly love that there are not really any 'good guys' in this.

How do you all feel about gray area villains and heroes?

Alright, I’m no expert in graphic novels, but aren’t most stories supposed to have a plot line? Like a beginning, middle, and end. I get that most graphic novel series don’t end after one volume but they still have some sort of story. Suicide Squad: Pure Insanity did not have that. It was like this volume was only the beginning. It was just a set up for what’s to come. There is a lot of conflict and a lot of fighting, but no real plot or solutions. One kind of started to happen near the end, but we’ll just have to wait until volume 2 to find out what happens.

There is not much else I can say about this. With no plot there isn’t really anything to comment on. There is a little bit of character development but not enough to focus on. Everybody is just kind of questioning why they are doing what they are doing, even the government people.

Also, the building is called “Belle Reve” which is French for “good dream”. Not sure what that is supposed to symbolize, if anything at all. I just thought it was kind of weird. I feel like they could have come up with something a little more clever.

I would not recommend this unless you just want to look at pictures of people fighting.

Nowhere near as good as the previous series. There was a little too much chaos. It reminded me of the 80'same version of the series, but not in a good way. Harley and Deadshot shine as usual. Manta is interesting here as well. The rest of the characters are pretty poorly written and used. I would give this 2.5 if I could, but I rounded up just because it's the Suicide Squad.

When I picked up this graphic novel, I expected excellent art, fast pacing, and had hopes for a decent plot. I got all of that, with the plot being the only possible weak point.

An easy pick up for any Suicide Squad, DC or Harley Quinn fans.
