I really enjoyed this book. There were bits that were a bit slow, confusing and pointless but it was relatable to high school in Australia. The alternating POVs showed how everyone sees the same situation differently and that people can change.

If you like the breakfast club, this is right up your alley
The Yearbook Committee was one of my most anticipated releases of 2016, and it certainly did not disappoint.
We follow a group of five year 12 students, each dealing with their own issues- bullying, manipulative friends, a difficult home life, change in environment- and how they come together, at first with hostility, thrown together haphazardly to create a school yearbook, and later with empathy and compassion, friends in the best sense.
The other great aspect of this novel was it's deep sense of place. The Yearbook Committee is set in the Sydney suburbs, it doesn't shy away from the everyday life of a teenager in 2016. It embraces technology, the environment, emotional hardships, diversity of characters, and blends it all together perfectly.
I read the entire novel in one sitting. I barely moved because I was so wrapped up in these characters and their development, and when it was over I wanted to cry because their struggles and their losses weren't over, but they had friends to lean on, and I think that's one of the greatest lessons you can take away from any story.

WHY DOES EVERY YA NOVEL THESE DAYS HAVE TO INVOLVE SOME MEDICAL EMERGENCY? If you couldn't tell, I have relatively strong feelings about the end of this book (I'll get to that later). Otherwise, this book was a relatively enjoyable, painless read. The characters are well fleshed out and reasonably well written, even if in some parts their extremes come across as exaggerations. The plot of the 5 strangers coming together to work on the yearbook was believable, and that side act tithe story was well chosen.
However, the end was abrupt, and it kind of ruined it for me. Gillian's entire character arc had a conclusion that wasn't believable and made no sense, other than a cautionary tale against the use of synthetic substances, and it wasn't a satisfying end to her story. Gillian was most likely the one who had to grow the most, yet she didn't even console with Charlie prior to her passing away. For this reason, this book was held back from a higher rating in my opinion.

Tried so hard to be the new Breakfast Club. But it needs so much more than a bunch of multi-problematic teenagers.
It aimed to portray us millennials and at the same time cover sensitive topics such as mental health, bullying & isolation. I think it did fairly on both but it could have been rendered in a better way.
There are times that I didn't know what was happening, thinking I missed a whole chapter but upon checking, I didn't. Maybe it's a problem with dialogues and narration. But overall I quite enjoyed it. It has so much potential. Too bad it was executed the way it's supposed to be.
