Wow I truly hated this book. Save yourself from a similar fate and do not read. Rage upon finishing it!!
The dual narratives are a pretty creative conceit, right up until the point at which it's finally (officially) revealed to the reader. From there, squarely at the novel's midpoint, it starts to feel like a massive dead weight as it's used to artificially prolong the mystery and manufacture needless drama. Much like a conflict that could be resolved by simply having a conversation, it becomes frustrating quickly. Watching Alex bumble around, bull-headedly bluffing his interactions with everyone around him as he tries to piece what happened together is not endearing to his smug, self-centered characterization, and I walk away from the ending wondering if maybe, just maybe, there's a third narrative hidden between the lines--starring himself as the untrustworthy narrator.
Mina's sections carried this one for me, but I think its unfortunate she's relegated to a side character in her own story, told in third person at that.

A good dueling/unreliable narrators twisty mystery. Did not see the end coming!

Sad she died in the end but love the suspense and the build up… the confrontation scene felt a little rushed, it didn’t seem believable that Sharon, a remorseless killer, accepted the truth that her husband is a pedophile too quickly because she spent was a die hard “stand by your man” for decades

I liked this - good twisty thriller. Once I understood the part about Layla was the manuscript it made more sense.
I really enjoyed the way this story was written. How it was set up and how things were inveiled. It was fun seeing how everything played out.
