If I had read this in middle school, I know I would’ve loved it! Obviously, I’m not the intended audience for this book so 3 stars as an adult reader.

Ok so I had to read this for my Children's Lit class. Although this was a book I'd considered picking up before, I most likely never would have. (Too many other great books to read.)

I think for a 13-year-old it would be a riveting story. It most certainly is written for that age group. The sentence structure and repetition... everything was 100% in line with what you would expect from a child that age. So major props to Gary for staying true to the mind of a 13 year old boy.

For me, however, the story was slow going. I thought that the first 50 pages and the last 20 were great. Everything in between could have been condensed to like 50 pages. I was like raspberries... blah, blah, blah fire... blah, blah, blah phsyco moose... blah, blah, blah.

This is a great story for older elementary school boys. But definitely didn't keep my attention.
