Our memories make us who we are. But what if you’re starting to doubt if those memories are real?

There’s just something inherently creepy and mysterious about the second person POV in general, then you add in this post-apocalyptic safe room vibe and it makes for one very disconcerting read.

I read this story fifth during my read through the Forward collection.

While this story is in 2nd person POV (an extremely hard pov to pull off) and is therefore in direct comparison with NK Jemisin’s contribution to this collection, I still really enjoyed this story. It’s well written, the characterization is fantastically done, and the worldbuilding is interesting and helps pull the story together without being the focus or overwhelming the narrative.
I did find the plot predictable, I guessed what was happening fairly early on. However, I didn’t feel that the predictability diminished my enjoyment or the quality of the story and the ending was just as impactful even though I knew what was coming.

I definitely enjoyed this. And it certainly helped maintain my interest in picking up the books by him on my shelves.

We took a very long time to get to a very predictable point..

I really enjoyed this short story from Amazon's Forward Collection. All authors from this collection were invited to contribute with a story that explores the effects of a pivotal technological moment - and to not introduce any spoilers into this review, I'll just say that the exact technology this story introduced was not that straightforward to guess until the end, probably because the author was focusing our attention on the senses and experiences of the main character, bringing us back to the present moment and not letting our imagination jump to any conclusions.
