This is a lovely children’s story where kids are asking their friend about life with “Two Mommies”. It is presented in a very open and honest way with racial diversity in the friends as well. I love the way the children speak to each other in that, they simply ask genuine, normal, questions. One thing that adults do is to overlay an adult perspective onto how a child views the world. One thing that has always been a “truth” to me is that young children do not put social constructs onto descriptions of people. So when they describe (or in this case ask about) differences in people, race, ethnicity, sexuality, they don’t imply anything additional to it like adults do. There isn’t a judgment there. They are naturally accepting but want to understand differences in people. So they often use those differences as pure descriptors rather than as a judgment. If they say someone is brown or black or white or Asian, they aren’t judging that but using it like they would hair color or height or if the kid wore glasses or not. If you read this book, trying to put your mind to where a child would be, you can easily see that sweetness of youth shine through.
Beautiful book, story and illustrations!

I repeating myself but A Tale of Two Mommies was as sweet and heartwarming as A Tale of Two Daddies. By rhyming questions and beautiful pictures, the book tackles some stereotypes about queer families. It is short, simple and great.

This is such a cute LGBTQ+ picture book for children which breaks the gendered stereotypes of what a mother is supposed to do. The young boy in this book has two mothers and during a conversation with his friends at the beach, he answers their questions on which of her mother does what for him. The illustrations are beautiful and I would highly recommend everyone to read it!
Many thanks to Netgalley!
I love this book, and as an elementary educator, I will definitely have A Tale of Two Mommies and others similar in my own personal library for students who are either being raised in a same-sex household or knows someone who is.

A conversation between three kids about the mom and mom family. I love the illustrations.

Cute! Such a lovely little story to teach kids (and adults!) that the most important thing about parents is that they're loving and kind!
**Thank you NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book**
A Tale of Two Mommies is a short story for children about a boy with two moms, who is answering his friends' questions during a day at the beach. The illustrations are colourful and beautiful, so it would easily capture a child's attention, and the questions and answers rhyme in a really fun way and with simple vocabulary. This is a book that normalises having same sex parents, and shows kids that having two mommies is no different than having a mom and a dad, or two dads for that matter, because it shows that the little boy has a nurturing loving environment.
This was a delightful short read, and I'll definitely be buying the book for my little sister to read it together!

I have read A tale of two mommies by Vanita Oelschlager. I got this book from Netgalley, thanks to them. This is a picture book for children. This book was pretty much the same as the other one, but with another perspective. Really liked it as well and gave it also 4 stars.

Once again, Vanita Oelschlager has created a really beautiful children's book that also has great representation. The protagonist of this book is a PoC and he has two mommies. As we go through this book we see the different roles that his mothers play in his life whilst also seeing that he is very loved.
There was one hilarious line of (possibly) accidental innuendo that would fly over a child's head but might make an adult smile...
