This book is over 1k pages long, and it is packed with action on literally every page. It's amazing seeing how so many side and side-side and side-side-side plots get woven together; it feels like every tiny detail is significant and gets woven into the bigger plot.

What I find fascinating, however, is that even the main character (Edmond) sees this story as a story of revenge. But it feels like for nearly every character, Edmond only gives them the opportunity. Every single character has the option to make their own life choices throughout the book. Some take the opportunities given to them and choose a positive path, some do not. It feels like Edmond really only has a very active role in helping the Morell family in an attempt to repay his old boss's kindness.

For those he attempts to seek "revenge" from, he mostly brings to light their own decisions. It felt a lot more like a story of justice. Many (most) people who rise to positions of prestige do so in unethical ways. Edmond arranges situations so people who had committed crimes have those crimes revealed; people who had cheated others, have their own earned wealth taken away. He considers himself an angel of vengeance, but I felt he was truly just bringing about the just ending each character deserved.

I did wish the ending was a bit happier. Overall I loved this book, and found myself having the hardest time putting it down!

What a masterpiece.
This is what a classic should be!
I’m so stunned about how much I loved this book!
All the characters where so well written that I loved them all and some I loved to hate them with the force of a thousand suns! I loved every final arc they got (even if poor Haydee with her severe father issues should have landed on a good therapist)
And Edmond
