This is one of those books that I KNOW I read during my childhood but I didn’t really remember anything about. I mean I know the story from watching the movies over and over but still.

So I'm fairly certain I read this as a kid, though the original movie definitely overshadows my memory.
It makes sense that I liked the movie a lot more - I feel like it expanded on a lot of emotional parts that the book kind of glossed over, and I think it was a tighter story overall. But I felt like most of my enjoyment came from knowing what was going to happen and being familiar with the story, rather than actually liking the way Dahl wrote the book. I seem to be more of a fan of his adaptations than his original books, so I'll have to see if that's the same with others.
