This was actually really fun. This story flew by and I had a great time reading. I loved the darker tone that this book had compared to some of Dahl's other works - it was a really interesting narrative to take and something that I really appreciated.

The characters were all really interesting and I loved the choices that were made, however the ending was a bit rushed. But, there is a sequel, so maybe it gets more resolved in that one.

Read this with my 5 year old, and he loved it. First book for him with only a drawing every few pages, and it kept his attention; and it was nearly 300 pages long.

The fast paced story really helped, and the descriptions of things was absolutely fantastic. Love Roald Dahl.

After finishing the book we watched the Gene Wilder version of the film and my son picked up things they didn't do - like the father who's job was to put toothpaste in tubes not appearing and the glass elevator not landing on top of Charlie's house. So once again book was much better then the film.
fast-paced

Read this to my baby for his bedtime story. He found the first part very upsetting and would cry so hard every time Charlie didn't get a ticket or when Charlie's family was starving. But he started loving it when Charlie goes to the Chocolate Factory. It was really fun having a bedtime story last for many nights and watching my son recall what had happened in the story from the previous night. Chapters are short and entertaining and satisfying enough that my son is ready to fall asleep by the end of the chapter instead of wound up.

Just finished this with Leo. The first half is so incredibly sad, which is fine, it's a great empathy builder. The time actually spent in the factory is great, though the Oompa Loompa songs are just bad. Leo liked it, and we had a great movie night to celebrate finishing the book!
