Love Road Dahl. As an adult though, more of the adults get on my nerves, including Grandpa Joe (conveniently bedridden until he feels like it, and then he's fine) and Willy Wonka himself (rude, obnoxious, and perfectly okay with endangering children for kicks). Still, it was fun to read with my 4-year-old, whose favorite book this now is.

M1 was fascinated the whole way, telling all our family members about the characters and their experiences! Not the best re: aging with time, I edited a bit as I read aloud for M1.

Read this to my kids. Forgot how different it was from the movies.
Read aloud to the kids. Kids rate it a 5. Very fun read. Kids had a hard time getting into it, but loved it in the end.
