4.06 AVERAGE

I read this with my daughter. She rated it a 5/5, and it was a 4/5 for me, so together a 4.5.
She loved all the imagery of delicious candy, and all the pictures. She loved the idea of a palace you can eat, and wants one for herself. I think she really loved Charlie got a happy ending. At one point she leaned over to me and asked very seriously, “Mom, why are none of the kids listening to Willy Wonka?”
That being said, it is a little dark in some places, but we had some good conversations about the heavier topics as we were reading.

Just finished reading with my five year old. She really enjoyed this book

I don't generally like stories that are so crazy and unlikely, but I can't deny that it was fun to read. I'm not sure it's that child-friendly, though, unless you're reading it with them and explaining. The reason I say this is because there is name-calling, which I would not like younger kids to read much of. There may be lessons in the story, but it's a bit cold and unfeeling, at least from the Oompa-Loompas and Mr. Wonka.

A childhood favorite!

Dahl’s wonderful and magical words will linger in your mind for quite some time after reading one of his tales. Always a great moment.
