4.25* Re-read
Thank heaven for this new cover! The previous one was beyond rubbish and didn’t fit this addictive urban fantasy romance thriller.
The world portrayed is very intriguing. People have been given powers due to a drug, not unlike The Boys, which has re-shaped society. The currency is now magic and Houses have arisen, dividing areas and competing against each other.
The action is fast-paced, but ultimately the characters make this story work, both main and secondary. Nevada is sassy, responsible, compassionate and protective. It doesn't hurt that she can hold her own. I loved her relationship with her family members, especially with the mother and grandmother. Add to this two primes - a loose canon who likes to burn everything, and another who is so powerful that his name alone scares people off!
I’ve re-read this series several times now and it remains a fun and engaging read :0)

I love Ilona Andrews. And this book pretty much sums up why: strong-willed heroine more focused on family than getting glory, strong, manly alpha males who at first dismiss heroine, but then are forced to confront both their commensense attitude and the fact they don't fall down on their knees in worship the moment alpha male enters the room.
And somehow there's lots of romance and lusting after eachother, but you also learn about Military Occupation Specialities, get long descriptions of guns and ammo, some cool hand-to-hand, and a loving description of each car in the story. (Seriously, between Audis and Range Rovers and Escalades, the cars are like another character.)
So you can't beat the mix of "feminine" romance plus manly info.
Nevada Baylor is a PI in a Houston firm that's composed mainly of her younger siblings, mechanic Grandma, and tech-nerd cousin. She had to mortgage the company to pay for some heavy duty medical treatment, and now the parent company is giving her an impossible task-- track down Prime Magic User Adam Pierce and get him to turn himself in.
She crosses path with another Prime Magic User, Mad Rogan, and things start to go haywire in the non-stop action and taunting/teasing way that Ilona Andrews excels at (If you like Kate Daniels or The Edge, you'll like this.)
Seriously can't wait for the next one. It totally hits the sweetspot in terms of romance, action, interesting world development, and mayhem. Plus manly info about guns and cars presented in a non-tedious way.

I didn't like this anywhere near as much as the Kate Daniels series, but I will probably continue on with this series anyway.

I really enjoyed the world building and the magic system is super interesting. However, i struggled with the belief of the romantic relationship. It just felt forced. I plan to read the next book though so hopefully that makes it seem more authentic.
I have been looking for a fun smutty series and I have found it in Hidden Legacies. It’s giving me the same vibes I had the first time I read the Southern Vampire Mysteries, and I’m delighted.
fast-paced
I enjoyed reading this book but there was a lot of problematic/cringe things and the story was kind of weak. Basically all the sex scenes were dubious consent and this wasn't handled well. Why was she so attracted to "Mad" Rogan but not Adam? They're both incredibly attractive, murderous billionaires. When Adam flirts with her she doesn't give a fuck, but she can't stop thinking about Rogans eyes? The writing there was kinda sloppy. Also she calls him the scourge of Mexico so many times it made me laugh
But I did have a fun time and I want to read the sequel, but I can't give this book more than 3 stars.
