I loved this reread. It hasn't been too long since I read this series, but coming back to the beginning was fun.
Nevada is a badass who I adore and Rogan a powerhouse that is so intriguing. The magic system is interesting and well built. The side characters were a bit one dimensional, but I loved them anyway.

Magic. Elite vs ‘normal’. Family. Family investigative business. Forbidden love/lust.

I checked this out on a whim because there weren't any books available to check out from the other series I've been reading.
Honestly, I was expecting it to be not great. I mean...the title...the cover...are both very cheesy Harlequin romance materials. Not to knock Harlequin romances because those are fun to read sometimes.
Based on the above, I was expecting a book more along the lines of something by Jeanine Frost. Which I was ok with because I just wanted something to listen to and her books can be fun (if disgustingly sappy and maudlin at times). But I was pleasantly surprised that the content of the book doesn't really match the cover or title.
I have been on a real urban supernatural kick for the last couple of years and this certainly checks those boxes. The main character, Nevada, is surprisingly funny. She makes some surprising decisions and has a very tongue-in-cheek sort of humor. Her family makes for an interesting cast of characters too. I like the world that Andrews has built here. It's similar enough to our own that it's easy to make sense of but different enough that there are surprises and things to learn.

Loved it. The characters were funny, full of depth and had a purpose in the story. The story itself was well thought out and the setting was cool. I loved the hero and heroine and their chemistry. 4.5 stars for me
This series is gonna be good - the slow burn, up all night, cry when the final book comes out type of good. “Burn for Me” was a tough book to review, mostly because it plodded along at a 3.5-4ish star rating for the first 75% and then jettisoned to a 5-star finale. The first 25% was very focused on world building and introducing characters with the middle half focused on Nevada and Rogan’s partnership. Overall it’s an extremely well-written 3.5-star book with 5+ star potential. Here is what you should know:
The world building is fantastic: Ilona Andrews throws a lot of information at the reader about the different types of magic but reminds the reader of what they need to know throughout the book. I like the dynamics of the family dynasties, known as Houses, that highly value honor even though they often seem above the law.
Mad Rogan is insane, intense, and formidable: This man is walking destruction to the point of being inhuman. I’m almost afraid to tell you that he’s also lethally attractive and a billionaire because you’ll forget how CRAZY this man is. Ignore the sexy smile. THAT MEANS HE’S GOING TO KILL YOU. LITERALLY! I’ve been going batty trying to figure out how this Beauty and the Beast-esque romance is going to work out between Nevada and Rogan… is this man even capable of love?
Nevada’s Grandmother: Nevada has a fierce love for her family, but the Grandmother stood out in particular. She’s a no-nonsense car mechanic with a red hot libido for the Primes of our story and is a welcome comic relief for some of the more intense scenes.
Nevada wasn't awesome for me: I found myself disenchanted by Nevada Baylor and wishing for more a more dynamic, take-charge character. I realize she’s in a seemingly impossible situation and in waaay over her head, but the ‘woe is me’ and ‘I need to save my family business’ monolog got a little tiring halfway in. At one point, I sincerely doubted she’d defy the odds despite being incredibly smart; she just didn’t come across as strong enough to handle Rogan and bring in Adam Pierce. (Mini-Spoiler: There is some major character development at 75% that saved Nevada for me, but I got a little bored of her in the meantime)

Okay. WORST COVER EVER. It's a good thing I fly through Andrew's books because I couldn't take this out in public with me...it was bad enough having my husband mock it in the privacy of our home. Horrible cover!
That said, it's an AWESOME BOOK! I'm unsure why it's a romance...I mean, it's got some romance in it but I didn't feel like it was more than the Kate books and those are urban fantasy. I've not read The Edge books because I was nervous about the romance part, it's not really my thing typically, but I decided to give this book a try anyway to support the Andrews. Turns out this was so much fun! Ilona Andrews doesn't disappoint and I am sad I have to wait until next year for the next book! SO GOOD!
