"It suddenly seemed wonderfully impossible to either of them that anything but this could be true." WHAT WE DO WITH THE WRECKAGE won The Flannery O'Connor Award for Short Fiction, and the honor is well-deserved. Lunstrum's stories focus on loss, love, and identity. The characters span ages and the settings span the globe, but the messages in these stories are universal. Lunstrum's prose is luminous, and you will find yourself wanting to underline so many sentences because yes, somehow she managed to capture something that you've been trying to put into words your whole life. A gorgeous collection. I savored every story.

The characters in Lunstrum’s stories give voice to the same doubts, feelings, and thoughts that we all have but are perhaps afraid to speak aloud. I found myself needing to take a break between each story because I was so invested in the characters and their lives. This is a must-read!
