A lot of fun to read. It’s got more of a sense of humour than I expected rather than being pure pulp. The ending, however, is rushed and terrible.

The title and cover illustration promise a dripping slice of seventies trash horror, which is just what I was in the mood for ... and yes, SATAN'S LOVE CHILD is certainly that, but it's also a whole lot more. For a start, it's really well written. Even the instances of porn (present and correct, as required) manage to go over the top without straying into silliness. Quite an achievement. His characters are entertainingly horrible and haplessly self-serving, and the story itself is wonderfully suggestive of evils greater even than the requisite summoning of Satan. There are echoes of THE OMEN and of ROSEMARY'S BABY here, but McNaughton manages to inject some originality, moving this out of the cash-in (or rip-off) category to establish his own niche, which he further explores in SATAN'S SEDUCTRESS and SATAN'S MISTRESS, both of which I shall definitely be reading.
