I don’t really remember too much of the first book but it was very easy for me to get back into the plot with Vincent and Katie. It’s a very good thing when it’s been years since you’ve read the first book yet you still fall in love with the characters all over again just in time for the series to be over. It shows that every single book in this trilogy is good rather than having either a middle book lull or a crash ending.

While I enjoyed both of the MCs quite a bit, there were definitely a few times when Katie annoyed me. I didn’t like how she felt she always knew what was best or at least think she knew what was best for those around her which is why she would keep things from Vincent. The same goes for Vincent, by the way. Also, the whole thing with “I don’t want to be with you if you’re always going to sacrifice yourself for other people” which made Vincent promise her that he would try very hard not to die for the sake of others, pissed me off. I mean, I understand you don’t want to see Vincent die but you’re basically denying everything he stands for. His whole purpose in life as a Revenant is to die to protect the humans around him. Yet you’re willing to go back with him because he promised you that he wouldn’t die. If it was me, I would have ended it with “let’s split up because you as a Revenant will not work for me” and leave it at that. For me, I thought that was very selfish. I also didn’t fully understand her reasoning to leave her NYC friends behind – was it because of her parents? I’m assuming so but I don’t recall her parents’ deaths had anything to do with her friends there yet she chose to leave her life-long friends behind with no contact whatsoever. Again, that was selfish for me.

I really liked Vincent but his image was a bit tarnished due to my own previous experiences with French men. I kept trying to picture him in my mind but all I was getting this mashed version of this old hookup of mine and Vincent from The Originals which was not a nice mash up for sure. Plus from my own experience with le French guy, it wasn’t the greatest – he was basically very stereotypically French so a lot of the romances and niceties that Vincent did for Katie, I was quite skeptical. I mean, is it really possible for a French guy to do something like this? It’s most likely just me and my cynical thinking though.

The other characters – Charlotte, Ambrose, Jules, JB and others – were beautifully crafted. I found their interaction with Katie and Vincent and with each other to be entertaining and you can clearly see the affection they all have for each other. I especially liked the pairing up that occurred in the series especially with Charlotte and Ambrose. So glad Ambrose finally saw the light because I was rooting for Charlotte the entire time.

As for the plot, I was shocked to find out who the “enemy” really was because I wasn’t expecting it at all. However, once it occurred, thinking back it did make sense. I also was at all not surprised to find out who the Champion was – it was pretty obvious from the get-go. So it was a little disappointing at how obvious Amy made it seem.

Overall, I enjoyed the series and the Revenants world. I found the book and description to be well-written and the characters to be well-developed. I would recommend it.

*Sigh* I can't believe this series is over! Confession time, I got the final book on release date but didn't read it until winter break. Why? Because I'm the master of procrastination. That said, I LOVED it! The ending was just so perfect... *whimpers* I almost cried when it ended, not because it was sad, but because it was so right. I really enjoyed the first two books, but, if memory serves, they just didn't do it for me. If I Should Die swept them off their feet and now I'm dying to reread the entire series.

The main character is Kate. Before the novels start, her parents are killed in a car wreck. She and her older sister, Georgia, move to Paris, France to live with their grandparents. And yes, this takes place in France! There, she meets Vincent. He's handsome and kind, everything you could want in a guy, except for the fact that he happens to be an immortal revenant. Kate manages to deal with this amazingly well. And when everything stands in her way, Kate simply doesn't give up. How her plot line ended for me wasn't much of a surprise, but I liked it. Kate is incredibly selfless. She is ready to sacrifice everything for those she loves. She always manages to fight for what's right. She also makes mistakes. Instead of being 100% right 100% of the time, Kate messes up. She makes inaccurate assumptions. But then she fixes it. Kate cleans up her own messes, and needs no one to do it for her.

The overall plot of the books was good. I feel like book one and part of book two didn't tie into the end plot, but then again, I also haven't read the books in months. I remember bits and pieces. There's definitely romance. Like, the completely swoony kind. There's actions, I distinctly remember explosions and, at one point, someone gets chopped to piece. (Don't worry, he'll just come back, revenants tend to do that) There are so many amazing characters that I couldn't list them all if I tried. There's Charlotte, another revenant who is like the kick-butt girl of the group. Ambrose, the only American revenant in the France, is like the awesome big brother you never had. The list goes on and on. I love each and every character to bits, flaws and all. This trilogy is definitely worth the read! I give it four stars.

P.S. Be on the lookout for Amy Plum's new book, After the End, coming this spring!

I'm so sad to see this series end and I don't know how I feel about this ending. I think the ending is appropriate, I'm just quite unhappy about some things like
WHY DOES JULES HAVE TO KEEP LEAVING? It's so upsetting, especially after seeing how he feels about Kate in [b:Die for Her|16102760|Die for Her (Revenants, #2.5)|Amy Plum|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1357925079s/16102760.jpg|21913655]. My heart is breaking for him and for poor Gaspard. ):

And I have so many unanswered questions. How can it just end right there? Can we have an epilogue please or something!?

I am so extremely sad that this series is over. This book rocked my world. I want my very own zombie boyfriend. Great job Ms Plum!!!

The start of If I Should Die was a little slow, but it ended with an awesome ending. I felt so bad for Jules and all everyone who lost a revenant close to them. It was a nice end to the series.

...And that was a great conclusion! Again, as I've found with the rest of this series, it was highly readable and constantly left me wondering what was coming next, drawn to finding spare moments wherein I could continue the story. I thought everything was quite satisfactorily tied up (although an epilogue would not have gone amiss) and the 'big battle' was written pretty well. Action certainly is one of Plum's strong points, alongside, once again, the background that was given to the Revenants, Numa and healers.

I couldn't lie and say that I didn't see every twist coming throughout the series (Violette, Kate's fate etc. etc.) however, the fact that it managed to maintain my interest despite this should show just how addictive it is. Once again, I would compare it to the Vampire Academy series which I would rate at around the same level - not the best series I've ever read by a long way but certainly worth having a go at.

The one thing I would query would be the love triangle - what was the point there? From my point of view Jules could have been a genuine love interest if his and Kate's relationship was developed further and I kept on anticipating it and waiting for it to happen because that was clearly in the author's mind... But it never did. It just kind of fizzled out after barely being addressed. Don't get me wrong it makes a nice change but I don't really understand the author's intentions in introducing it and building it up for the readers if nothing ever comes of it.

Still, these have been a good occupation for the past few days and I would recommend them as a quick urban fantasy fix if you aren't looking for anything too upmarket.
