Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.
Enjoyable read with mature characters. The growth of the characters, specifically the "children", was interesting. I like the disparity between the sisters and how they deal with the differences in their parentage. The son is a strong character for knowing his own mind and sticking to his convictions. The struggles were thought provoking - do we go along because it's easier? Or because it's expected? I did find the prospect of another "9/11" upsetting, although I realize that it could certainly occur. This is not a read for those with issues related to the attacks on 9/11, but otherwise, recommend.

Danielle Steel’s latest book is a 5 powerful star winner. Steel proficiently grabs the base of each characters struggles. Kezia is intelligent, warm, selfless, good natured and full of hope and dreams. Kezia is about to turn 60 and makes a major move from San Francisco to NY to be closer to her two daughters. Her husband of 25 happy years died five years prior to the move. She had Kate out of wedlock to a man who gave up all parental rights. Years later, she falls in love with a man whom she marries and has a daughter with him. He adopts Kate and treats her like his own.
Kate struggles with who her biological father and why he abandoned her. This part of the story fell short. We could have read from Kates POV. She always chooses the wrong man and then hangs on to long. She often compares herself to her much younger super model sister who has it all.
There’s a darker side of the story. NY is attacked and is more brutal than 9-11. This brings Kezia to met her terrace neighbor Sam. Sam is famous (widowed) actor. They form a bond when they volunteer to help at the bombing sites.
There are side characters too. Steele has the ability to weave families and new friends into transitioning the past into the future.
Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group-Ballantine, Delacorte Press for ARC read in exchange for my honest review

This may have been a bit darker than a normal DS book with its content but it was till so we’ll written and made for a gripping storyline. I would’ve liked a more in depth look at the characters maybe but for a quick read it still worked out well. Many thanks to the publisher and netgalley for this copy for read and review

I hated this book SO much I didn't even finish it. Why write a story that's based on the horror that was 9/11 and have the main 'heroes' be rich people living in penthouse apartments in NY? Tacky, sophomoric, distasteful, out of date, disgusting. Personally, I'm done with Danielle Steel as an author. She should have quit many, many books ago.
I have a terrible sinus infection, and I really need a distraction, so I felt like reading a Danielle Steel book is the best thing to do. I enjoyed it.
It's the same old Danielle Steel book though. One of the daughters is a carefree model, and the other one is angry and bitter. There's always a bitter daughter.
In this case, the event in question seemed insensitive, considering the emotional weight it carried. While the swift resolution and the capture of the perpetrators provided some sense of justice, it did not alleviate my unease. I believe that the author could have explored alternative avenues to create tension and conflict within the story without resorting to such a distressing event.
As readers, we invest our time and emotions into the stories we read, and it is crucial for authors to handle sensitive subjects with care. While it is understandable that authors may want to elicit strong emotions from their readers, it is equally important to strike a balance between evoking emotions and ensuring the comfort and well-being of the audience.

While I found the book enjoyable overall, there is a specific element that I feel compelled to address as it significantly impacted my rating. This concerns a traumatic event that the author incorporated into the narrative - a terrorist attack. I have noticed a recurring theme of terrorist attacks in Danielle Steel's books, and it has started to diminish my wanting to read her work. While I acknowledge the potential for such events to enhance the depth and authenticity of a story, I personally found this particular event to be distressing and unsettling..In this case, the event in question seemed insensitive, considering the emotional weight it carried. The characters didn't feel real or interesting, and the story lacked depth and connection. Even though it was short, there wasn't enough character growth. The terrorist attack plot felt like it was thrown in without much thought, and the story felt like it was trying to be two different types of books at once.
I don't think I was the right audience for this book.
