“Death is not the end of us.”
A tragic yet beautiful and poetic tale of two souls in purgatory. This is a story of love, closure, forgiveness and healing. It captures the rawness of mental health and repercussion of toxic family relationships. I felt connected to the story and characters, and felt every emotion to my core. To me, this was pure perfection, and although I’m sad this story is over, my heart is full knowing these characters got the closure they deserved.

“Life is a circus of betrayal and dread. Nothing good stays and nothing bad ever really goes. Death is nothing more than a somber replay of it all. An ode to the closing of that very last chapter you perhaps never did get to finish. Is there anything quite as sad as that? A story left unfinished.”
“He is a ballad of phantoms… and, perhaps, one of hope.”
Unfortunately I had to give up on this one. I'm not sure if I wasn't in the right mood for this story but I was painfully bored. I adored Fabric of our Souls and this story is just as beautifully written but I struggled to connect and care for the main characters and their romance. They both have dark and harrowed pasts, and the romanticization of healing yourself even in death was a captivating premise, but their journey fell flat for me. I think this suffered from two things. One, it should have been a novella and therefore much shorter. Especially because, and this is my second issue, there was no intriguing plot besides their love tragic love story.
“This lovely phantom is the very image of tragedy. She is a ballad of mournful movements, bones, and tattered lace—a symphony unlike any I’ve endured.”
“I want my love to haunt you. Until the stars die—until all the water in the ocean dries and we’re all that’s left in this cruel, dark world.”
