Okay so… Bloodmarked? Was I entertained? Yes. Did I love Legendborn more? Absolutely.
The vibes were definitely darker and more chaotic than Legendborn, which I was here for… but my adhd had me struggling. I felt like every time someone had a plan, they changed their mind five minutes later. It was giving me whiplash and I had to rewind and listen to multiple chapters multiple times. (And this audiobook was 25 hours! So that’s a lot of work!) Maybe it’s just my expectations, but we start the book focusing on Bree honing her powers and practicing and then she just gives up once they’re in danger constantly. Which felt… backwards?
Besides their agenda consistently always changing I also struggled with WAY more characters. And basically new hierarchies dropped in a confusing way. We’re no longer at the college either so a lot of the parts from book 1 that made it an easier fantasy for me, disappeared this book.
BUT, that’s ok! I still loved this. Why? Because Selwyn Kane, CARRIED this book for me. I’m a huge fan of him!!!! But it almost felt like he was the main character at times…which is fine by me. But damnit if I didn’t want more ✨MOMENTS✨ with them. I genuinely thought the whole point of Nick being away in this book would give them more time to develop and bond. But they spent a lot of time fighting and not enough time making up in my opinion. Lol
There were moments that had my jaw dropped. Some chapters (shoutout especially the entire end) had me clutching my emotional support blanket. And the way Tracy writes raw emotion? Chef’s kiss. If you loved Legendborn, parts of this will absolutely slap. But other parts? You’ll be texting your group chat like “what the actual hell is going on?”
TL;DR:
Emotional? Yes. Gripping? At times. But chaotic messy? Yeah, I needed a map. Obviously reading book 3 though because I’m loyal like that.
