Overall ok, interesting to hear someone else's perspective on areas I know about. The curmudgeon-ness is getting a tiring though.

this random tour through both famous and lesser known british destinations simultaneously takes the reader on a journey through human nature, with many side trips down lanes historical to boot; the journey is always thought provoking and often hysterically funny. a real gem for and anglophile.

I really enjoyed this, Bill Bryson is fantastic at understanding the British. There were so many times I found myself nodding along and noticing familiarities within my own culture. I felt a sense of nostalgia for places I have never been before. Would definitely recommend.

Basically, a British apologetic. While it is diverting at times, mostly seems to be written for a British audience. And I never figured out where the title came from because I don't recall it ever mentioning little dribbling.

Wow. It took me an extraordinarily long time to finish this book, especially considering how much I enjoyed it. Yes, I put it down for a couple of weeks to read a library book I'd been waiting for for many weeks, but still. I may also have been slowed down by the fact that at least once every chapter I found myself laughing out loud and marking, copying or reading some phrase or passage to whoever happened to be nearby. There is so much here-- it is primarily observations taken on Bryson's second (purposeful) trip around Britain, done a few decades after his first one, and after he'd been living in the country all that time. But more than just passionate exaltations about the beauty of the landscape (of which there are many), there is a great deal of history as well as commentary about the current state of the culture and politics of the place. The descriptions are so rapturous, I wanted to visit many places immediately. I certainly plan to go and walk around Britain a lot someday, and I will certainly take this book along with me when I do.

Made an attempt at a listen... it's odd because some of Bryson I've read and some I've listened to but I just couldn't get my head in the game on this one. I got more than half way and some of the parts (that I actually heard) I enjoyed and some not so much. I'll probably give this another attempt one day- reading it, that is.
