This was a dark book to read and the stuff movies get made of, but it’s actually an important treatise on the state of the South even today where many Whites still yearn for the days of Jim Crow and Black oppression.

Another great book from SA Cosby. He’s becoming one of my favorite writers. This book is very dark in subject matter but it’s an excellently constructed mystery/thriller. Bravo!!

S.A. Cosby can take tropes of thrillers and make them deeper, darker, and more compelling. A tangled web of morality, Christianity, identity, secrets, and the many forms of violence in a society. This was the first thriller to make me cry.
