Did I like this book because I’m a cheese ball and I am a sucker for the celebrity rom-com trope? Yes. Did I somewhat dislike this  because Sally, the narrator, and the modernity of it pissed me off? Also yes! However, I really did enjoy the concept of a late night comedy show writer falling in love with the celebrity guest/host of the show. I found the plot to be questionable and overall the book felt incomplete to me, but I would not dissuade others from reading it - it just wasn’t my cup of tea!

This book heavily deals with COVID in the immediate summer of 2020 with uncertainty, anxieties, and all other political events that happened in the US during that time.

I enjoyed the second and third parts of this book much more than the first, and I trudged through the first part because I’ve enjoyed other books by this author so I was hopeful it would redeem itself, which it only sort of did? My main issue with the first part of the book is that I didn’t find the main character (or most of the sketches she was pitching) funny, with the exception of the dog internet searches. The behind-the-scenes SNL stuff was interesting but I prefer to read Amy Poehler or Tina Fey’s memoirs for that.
later, I  really enjoyed the emails and the start of their relationship, but there are so many communication issues and unhealthy dynamics that it was hard to root for them as a couple.

This was a fun read. It had slow burn, it had instant love, it was giving "You've got Mail" vibes, and it had a strong FMC.

Personally, in most cases I'm not a big fan of miscommunication or in the case of this book the intentional sabotaging of a (potential) relationship over having a hard conversation. I also got a bit thrown off when the setting shifted to the pandemic. It turned out to be a great setting for the majority of the story, but it was a bit out of left field.
